The Kilimanjaro-safari combo works in every month of the year â but the experience varies enormously depending on when you go. The mountain and the safari each have their own weather patterns, crowd cycles, and wildlife migrations that do not always align perfectly.

Things That Apply to Every Month
Altitude acclimatization is non-negotiable
No matter when you go, the mountain demands respect. Choose a 7+ day itinerary for the best acclimatization. 5-6 day routes are always higher risk regardless of weather.
Safari is always possible
Tanzania's wildlife does not disappear in the green season. The animals are simply more spread out, which means your guide's skill matters more than the calendar.
Mountain weather changes fast
Regardless of season, Kilimanjaro's summit zone can experience blizzards, high winds, and sub-zero temperatures at any time. Come prepared for all four seasons in a single day.
Book your combo operator early
Whether you go in July or January, the combo requires coordination between mountain and safari logistics. One operator who does both means no hand-off problems. We recommend booking at least 3 months ahead â 6+ months for peak season.
