Namanga Border (Tanzania–Kenya)
The main border crossing for safari traffic between Tanzania and Kenya. Located one hour south of Amboseli. Allows 1–2 hours for the crossing — passport, visa processing, and vehicle documentation. We handle all paperwork. Same vehicle, same driver-guide throughout.

Sirari / Boboka Border
An alternative crossing further west, used when routing between Kenya's western parks (Masai Mara) and Tanzania's western Serengeti (Grumeti area). Less busy than Namanga but requires more pre-planning. We arrange all transit documentation in advance.

What is the best time to do a Kenya and Tanzania safari?
The best time depends on what you want to see. July–October is peak for the Mara River crossing (wildebeest moving from Tanzania into Kenya). January–March is peak for the calving season in Tanzania's Serengeti Ndutu plains. June–October is the dry season across both countries and generally excellent for game viewing. The shoulder months (April–May, November) offer lower prices and good wildlife with fewer vehicles.
Do I need separate visas for Kenya and Tanzania?
You can use the East Africa Tourist Visa ($100) which covers both countries for 90 days. It is available at arrival for most nationalities or can be obtained online before departure. We recommend obtaining it before you travel to avoid queuing at the border. Both countries also accept standard tourist visas independently if you prefer to enter each separately.
Is it safe to cross the Tanzania–Kenya border?
The Namanga border crossing is straightforward and well-used by tourists. It is a standard immigration checkpoint — passport control, visa stamp, vehicle documentation. There is no security risk on the Tanzania side for tourists crossing into Kenya for a safari. We use a private vehicle with a registered Tanzanian driver-guide who is experienced with the crossing process. You do not change vehicles or operators at the border.
How many days should I spend in Kenya vs Tanzania?
For a 10-day combined safari, 4 days in Tanzania and 3 days in Kenya is a good balance — it covers the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Masai Mara, and Amboseli without rushing. For a 14-day trip, you can spend 6 days in Tanzania (including Kilimanjaro) and 5 days in Kenya. The key is not to squeeze too many parks into too few days — travel time between parks is real, and rushing defeats the purpose of a safari.
Can I climb Kilimanjaro and do a Kenya and Tanzania safari in one trip?
Yes. The most common sequence: Arusha → Kilimanjaro climb (8-day Northern Circuit) → Arusha recovery night → fly to Serengeti (3 days) → Ngorongoro (2 days) → drive to Amboseli via Namanga border (2 days) → Masai Mara (3 days). Which Kenya safari park has the Mount Kilimanjaro view?
Amboseli National Park is the only Kenya safari park with Mount Kilimanjaro in view — the mountain sits roughly 50 km line-of-sight across the Tanzania border, framed behind the marshes and elephant herds on a clear day. The Masai Mara, Samburu, Lake Nakuru and Tsavo do NOT have a Kilimanjaro view; the mountain is too far north or hidden by other terrain. If seeing Kilimanjaro rising over a Big Five safari is the point of the trip, Amboseli is the only park that delivers it. Can I see Mount Kilimanjaro from the Masai Mara?
No. The Masai Mara is several hundred kilometres north of Kilimanjaro, well beyond the mountain's line-of-sight — the snow-capped summit is not visible from any point in the Mara plains.
