The Three-Part Trip
Kilimanjaro Safari Zanzibar | Climb + Safari + Beach
No other country delivers three such distinct, world-class experiences in a single trip. Kilimanjaro at 5,895m — the highest point in Africa, a literal summit of possibility. The Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater — the greatest wildlife show on Earth. Zanzibar — Indian Ocean island paradise, turquoise water, spice markets, and the deep rest your body craves after high altitude and early morning game drives. This is not a rushed itinerary. It is three chapters of a story you will tell for the rest of your life.

The Sequence
Kilimanjaro Safari Zanzibar | Climb + Safari + Beach
The order is not arbitrary. Kilimanjaro demands your best physical condition — you need to be rested, alert, and acclimatised. If you do safari first, you arrive at the mountain already fatigued. Safari before Zanzibar works physiologically (you are descending in altitude, which helps), but the mountain is always the most demanding chapter and deserves your peak condition. Zanzibar last is the intentional recovery — sea level, warm water, slow pace. After the mountain's thin air and the safari's early mornings, Zanzibar feels like a different planet. Most clients say the same thing: Zanzibar after Kilimanjaro and safari is the best beach experience of their lives.

How Many Days
Kilimanjaro Safari Zanzibar | Climb + Safari + Beach
The shortest viable triple-combo is 12 days: 6-day climb + 3-day safari + 3 nights Zanzibar. This works but rushes both the mountain and safari. We recommend 16–18 days as the ideal balance: 7–8 days on the mountain (Lemosho or Machame), 4–5 days on safari (Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro), 4–5 nights on Zanzibar. This pace gives you proper acclimatisation on the mountain, meaningful wildlife encounters rather than whistle-stop game drives, and genuine beach recovery.

How Many Days Do You Need?
The triple combo scales from 12 to 21 days. Here is how each version feels.
| Total Days | Mountain | Safari | Zanzibar | The Feel |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10–12 days | 5–6 day Machame | 3 days (Tarangire + Ngorongoro) | 3 nights | Active but compressed. Good for fit travellers with limited time. |
| 14–16 days | 7–8 day Lemosho | 4 days (full Northern Circuit) | 4–5 nights | Our recommended sweet spot. Proper pacing for all three experiences. |
| 18–21 days | 8 day Lemosho or Northern Circuit | 5–6 days (add Serengeti) | 6–7 nights | The complete experience. No rushing, no compromises. |

Practical Planning
Logistics Between the Three
Mountain to Safari
After summiting and descending, you return to Arusha (1,400m) for a recovery night before the safari circuit. Most climbers are ready for game drives within 24 hours of returning from the mountain. The Ngorongoro crater floor is at 1,700m — similar elevation to Arusha. No altitude concerns.
Safari vehicles depart Arusha at 7am on Day 1. We recommend a rest night in Arusha between the climb and the safari — it is built into all our itineraries.
Safari to Zanzibar
The most common route: fly from the Serengeti or Arusha to Zanzibar. Direct flights from the Serengeti's own airstrip to Zanzibar (via Dar es Salaam) take approximately 4 hours including the connection. Flying from Arusha to Zanzibar is simpler: 1 hour 40 minutes direct, or 2.5 hours via Dar es Salaam.
We book these internal flights as part of the package. No separate visas needed for Zanzibar — it is part of Tanzania. Your international flight home departs from Zanzibar Airport (ZNZ).

Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I do Kilimanjaro, safari, and Zanzibar in one trip?+
Yes — and it is one of the most satisfying multi-experience trips in the world. The three are naturally sequenced: the mountain is the physical peak, the safari delivers the wildlife spectacle, and Zanzibar is the recovery chapter. The logistics work smoothly because all three are in Tanzania — no cross-border complications. Fly into Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO), out of Zanzibar (ZNZ). We handle every internal transfer.
Which order should I do the three — mountain, safari, or beach?+
Mountain first, safari second, Zanzibar last — every time. This is the only sequence that gives the mountain your best physical condition, uses the safari as a transition between altitude and sea level, and puts Zanzibar as the earned reward. We have tested every sequence over 47 years of operating. This is the answer.
How many days do I need for a Kilimanjaro + safari + Zanzibar trip?+
Minimum: 12 days (6-day climb, 3-day safari, 3 nights Zanzibar). Recommended: 16–18 days (8-day Lemosho, 4-day safari, 5 nights Zanzibar). 21 days gives you the complete experience without any rushing.
Is Zanzibar safe after Kilimanjaro?+
Zanzibar is one of the safest recovery destinations you could choose after a high-altitude climb. At sea level, any residual altitude effects resolve within 24–48 hours. The warm, humid air, the physical buoyancy of swimming in the ocean, and the overall pace of island life are exactly what a post-Kilimanjaro body needs. There is nothing strenuous about Zanzibar — it is the antidote to the mountain.
What is the total cost of a Kilimanjaro + Safari + Zanzibar trip?+
A 16-day triple-combo typically costs from $3,536 per person (two sharing), including the mountain climb, safari, Zanzibar hotel, all park fees, accommodation, meals, and a private guide throughout. Single supplements, international flights, and visa fees are additional. It is a significant investment — but it covers three iconic experiences in one country with one operator.
Can I add Zanzibar to an existing Kili + safari booking?+
Absolutely. Most of our clients who climb Kilimanjaro add Zanzibar at the end — it is the most natural extension in East Africa. We add it to any existing itinerary and handle all the logistics: the internal flight from the safari circuit to Zanzibar, your hotel booking, and any activities you want to include while on the island.
