Kili + Safari Combo
Fly Camping
After Kilimanjaro
Summit Africa's highest peak. Then sleep under the stars in the Serengeti. The perfect post-summit reset — one operator, one seamless trip since 1978.
The Post-Summit Reset
Two Experiences That Belong Together
After the physical achievement of Kilimanjaro — the early mornings, the altitude, the seven to ten days of sustained effort required to reach Uhuru Peak — there is nothing in the world like a night in a fly camp. No walls, no engine noise, no agenda. Just the African night settling in around you, the Milky Way revealed in all its width, and the distant call of lions as the darkness completes.
Fly camping is the most immersive safari accommodation available in Tanzania — a single lightweight tent erected in a remote location chosen the morning of, with no permanent structure, no electricity, and no running water. It is the perfect counterpoint to the challenge of the climb: total passive enjoyment, total immersion, total reset.
Our Kilimanjaro Fly Camping Safari combines the best of both: a summit attempt on the Lemosho or Machame route, a night in a private fly camp on the Serengeti plains, and a full safari through Tanzania's most remarkable wildlife landscapes. One operator. One seamless trip. No handoffs.

The Night
What Your Fly Camp Night Looks Like
Late Afternoon
Your guide identifies the fly camp location in the morning based on the day’s wildlife sightings and movement patterns. You arrive in golden hour light — the best photography of the day, and the start of a very special evening.
Evening
A simple stretcher bed, quality sheets, and a duvet have been set up under the fly sheet. The bucket shower — filled with warm water by the support team — is ready. Dinner is cooked over the open fire: grilled meats, local vegetables, bread baked in the ashes.
After Dinner
Your guide sits around the fire with you. This is when the bush reveals itself — the sounds that are impossible to identify without expert knowledge, the patterns of predator and prey, the way the nocturnal animals begin to move as the last light fades.
Night
You sleep with the side of the tent open to the stars. Lions roaring in the distance. Hyenas laughing. Hippos grazing outside camp. Your guide sleeps nearby, armed, watching. This is Africa at its most honest.
Dawn
You wake to birdsong and the first light across the Serengeti plains. Coffee is waiting. Breakfast is cooking. The morning game drive begins from the fly camp — already in the heart of the wildlife action, no driving required.

Questions
Fly Camping Safari — FAQ
Is fly camping safe after climbing Kilimanjaro?
Fly camping is entirely safe — your armed professional guide is present at the fly camp throughout the night. Fly camps are positioned in areas assessed as low risk for large animal movement. Clients receive a full wildlife safety briefing before the fly camp is set up. After the physical demands of a Kilimanjaro climb, fly camping is an entirely passive experience — there is no walking, no climbing, no effort required beyond walking to the fly camp and settling in for dinner.
How does fly camping fit into a post-Kilimanjaro safari?
Fly camping is the climax of the safari portion of your Kili combo trip. Most climbers are ready for a completely passive experience after the physical exertion of the climb — fly camping delivers exactly that. You rest during the day while your guide takes you on gentle game drives, then transfer to the fly camp in the late afternoon. The fly camp night is the culminating experience of the entire trip.
Do I need special fitness or equipment for fly camping?
No special fitness is required for fly camping — it is far less demanding than a Kilimanjaro climb. There is no walking involved beyond the short walk from the vehicle to the fly camp. No special equipment is required: your main camp provides the bed, sheets, duvet, and meals. We recommend bringing a warm layer for cool desert nights and a headlamp. Closed shoes are useful for walking to the fly camp at dusk.
What is the difference between fly camping and a regular luxury tented camp?
A luxury tented camp is a permanent or semi-permanent structure with en-suite bathrooms, beds, and hotel-level service. Fly camping is deliberately elemental — no permanent structure, no electricity, no running water, and no walls separating you from the bush. Fly camping is not luxury in the conventional sense; it is luxury in the sense of total immersion in the natural world, managed by experts who make it safe and comfortable without domesticating it.
What is the best time of year for a fly camping safari after Kilimanjaro?
Fly camping operates from June to October — the dry season, when the risk of mosquitoes is lowest and wildlife congregates most densely around water sources. This overlaps perfectly with the best months for Kilimanjaro climbing (June-August and January-March). If you climb Kilimanjaro from June to October, your post-climb safari can include a fly camping night.
How much does fly camping cost as part of a Kilimanjaro safari combo?
Fly camping is offered as part of our 14-day and 21-day Kilimanjaro Safari Combos rather than as a standalone add-on. The fly camping night is included in the package price for qualifying itineraries. For specific pricing, speak to us directly via WhatsApp — we will design a package around your dates, route preference, and safari priorities.
